Have you ever had a dream that felt so real that when you woke up, you thought the dream was your reality?
The reason this happens is because the mind does not understand the difference between reality and imagination.

In other words, it cannot distinguish the difference between what you visualize in your mind as opposed to what you actually experience in life.

This is extremely powerful knowledge. And the reason I say this is because all things in life are nothing more than energy in vibration. And energy attracts energy of the same kind. Therefore, if you can effectively visualize yourself doing something, you will at some point attract that reality into your life.

The second reason why this fact is so powerful is because every time we do something we become better at it. Experience enables us to be better prepared every time we come across a challenging encounter or situation.

And since the mind can’t tell the difference between a “real” situation and one that you’ve imagined, if you continuously visualize that situation, you will be well-prepared for it when it takes place in reality.
Now imagine how powerful it would be if you could help other people create a crystal-clear vision of themselves in the future doing what you want them to do. This would be extremely helpful in influencing people and gaining compliance.

Here’s another empowering article by world renowned hypnotist Steve G. Jones. I thought you might enjoy something called future pacing.

Take a look:

When it comes to Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP), two of the most powerful techniques you can use are pacing and mirroring.

I want to tell you about future pacing. Future pacing, essentially, is when you take the person that you’re speaking with and mentally bring them into a future event, where they can clearly see themselves doing something.

If you remember from a previous article when I spoke about tapping into people’s representational systems and determining whether they’re auditory kinesthetic or visual, you can now use future pacing to help you once you figure out which category a person falls into.

For example, let’s assume that you’re talking with someone who is an auditory thinker and you are trying to sell them a car. One of the most effective ways to get them to purchase that car is to tell them to imagine themselves in that brand-new car driving down the highway listening to the rev of the engine and their favorite music playing in the background.

If you are dealing with a visual person, you would tell them to imagine themselves driving the car seeing the sunset and watching the trees blow in the wind as they got closer to the beach.

And if they were kinesthetic, you could tell them to imagine what it would feel like to be in the car smelling the brand-new leather and feeling the sun gently warm their skin as they cruise down the highway.
You have now done two things; first you have begun to align their thinking with the future reality that you want. So the attraction process has now begun. The second thing that you have done is by tapping into their representational system and creating a presentation based on that information. You have created a strong desire that this person will now want to bring to reality.

You have now embedded change into this person’s future and you have given them the opportunity to experience what you’re offering in a positive manner before they actually get to that point.
Now, the key is to show what you have to offer can help fill the desire that you have created by helping the person visualize the future.

If you can effectively do that, the person with whom you’re speaking to will be genuinely interested in what you have to offer, because they see value in it. And the reason why they see value in it is because you’ve created a desire within their mind and presented the solution that will help them in the form of whatever it is that you’re offering.

Today I heard about an interesting term called phonological ambiguity. I know it may sound pretty complicated, but what it means is that the brain cannot distinguish the difference between two words that sound alike but have different meanings.

Today I heard about an interesting term called phonological ambiguity. I know it may sound pretty complicated, but what it means is that the brain cannot distinguish the difference between two words that sound alike but have different meanings.

For example let’s take the word ‘nose,’ which represents the thing on your face that you use to smell things and the word ‘knows,’ which represents the fact that you understand something or have a certain amount of knowledge on a situation.

Because these two words sound exactly alike, the brain cannot distinguish between the two of them. In other words, they are ambiguous within your mind and can be understood interchangeably.
Want to know how you can use this knowledge to influence just about anyone to do anything that you want?

Expert hypnotist Steve G. Jones shares the secret here:

Within each of us is a conscious mind and a subconscious mind. The conscious mind thinks, computes, calculates and can perform various other functions that involves “thinking.”
The subconscious mind on the other hand does not “think,” it simply exists. It makes rapid-fire decisions without you even realizing it, based on every previous experience you had in life.

In the world of NLP, we use something called embedded commands to leverage the power of this truth. Embedded commands, or analog marking, are the idea of marking out certain words in a statement that you are making.

Many of these commands can be broken down to three word commands. So the key is to break down the action that you want the person to take in just three words. For example, let’s say you wanted your friend to go to the store to pick you up some food, the only three words that need to be a part of this command are “Go to store.”

But what makes embedded commands so interesting is that you are taking and formatting them in a way that is covert or so the person does not realize that they are receiving a command; but rest assured, they are.
This is what makes embedded commands so powerful. Essentially, we can insert them into parts of conversations that have nothing to do with the command itself and get the person to do exactly what we want them to do.

All you simply need to do is make a statement to someone and insure that the three words essential to the command are in place, you just need to slightly emphasize them more.
For instance, using the example of wanting someone to go to the store for you, you could use a statement like this (simply put more emphasis on the words in bold): I was trying to find someone’s house the other day, but wasn’t sure which way to GO so I asked TWO people and they said drive up to the next STORE and make a left.

What you have done here is created a statement that has absolutely nothing to do with what you want this person to do, yet they will eventually comply, because the command “GO TO STORE” was embedded in the statement.

What makes this technique so great, is that it can be used in text messages and e-mails, just as it can in verbal communication. When using it on both platforms, simply change the way the commands look in some aspect by either capitalizing or changing the font or making the words bigger.
Remember, it doesn’t matter that I used the word two (which represents the number) in place of the word “to” because the mind can make a distinction anyway. That makes the technique even more covert.

The key here is to just make sure that the commands have a slightly higher emphasis put on them than the rest of the words. Notice that I said “slightly higher.” The idea is not to shout these words in a way that you bring attention to what you’re doing just simply modify them in some way to make them stand out in the person’s mind.

Isn't it amazing how you can stop a 200 ton boat did which tracks by simply dropping an anchor into the sea?

Isn’t it amazing how you can stop a 200 ton boat dead by simply dropping an anchor into the sea?
Anchors are extremely powerful and useful when it comes to keeping things in place and preventing them from drifting away.

Well what if I told you there was a way to do this with your positive emotions?
We’ve all had time in our lives when we felt more confident, more powerful and more skilled in a certain area.
And we’ve all certainly had those times were we felt like no matter what we tried, nothing seemed to work. Did you ever notice that in both positive and negative mind states, we seem to build momentum in both cases?

In other words, when we’re in a state of positivity, we just seem to build on that and enter what is known as the “zone”. And when we’re in a state of negativity, we feel like “when it rains, it pours”.
Let’s talk about positivity for a moment.

I can’t think of a better example of someone being in the “zone” then Reggie Miller in the game-winning performance that he put on during game five in the 1994 NBA playoffs against the New York Knicks.
Coming into the game, the Indiana Pacers had lost 11 straight games at Madison Square Garden; but this game would be different.

In the fourth quarter of the game, Reggie scored 25 of his total 39 points and nailed five 3 pointers leading his team to a 93 – 86 win. Keep in mind, the Pacers also came into this quarter down by 12 points.
This kind of positive momentum takes place in people’s lives all the time, the problem is that most people don’t know how to consciously make it happen whenever they want.

They know the feeling when they experience it and they know they’re in the zone but very few people can actually get into that state whenever they choose.

Today I want to share a really interesting article with you from Steve G. Jones, clinical hypnotherapist on an NLP technique called anchoring.

Anchoring will basically allow you to effectively achieve the positive mental state of being in the zone and then remain in that place just as an anchor holds a ship in place.
Check it out here

Anchoring is a very useful tool. As the word implies, anchoring has to do with setting something up that will take firm hold in place.

What makes anchors so powerful is that you can use them to hold positive mental states in place including confidence, attraction, intelligence, humor, etc.

But you can also anchor alders to you to prevent them from drifting away. Anchors are also talk to the concepts around you and when bringing all of these elements together, you can achieve things like making someone think you are funny even if you are generally not a funny person.

You can also anchor someone into thinking that you are extremely confident; here’s how:
Anchoring yourself with confidence happens alone. When you anchor someone to yourself, that happens with someone else.

Do not do this while driving, but what I would like you to do is to close your eyes and remember the time when you were confident. It can be anything.

Examples are a birthday party, walking across the road and doing a good dead or anything else even if basic that you can pick out that made you feel confident.

With your eyes closed, I’d like you to remember yourself in that situation.

Whatever was going on is going on now in your mind. Paint the scene; see the colors and the people, if there are any. Smell the scent in the air. Does it smell good or bad? Does it smell like you are indoors or outdoors, like something new or old? Perhaps you just smell the clean air? What do you hear? Are people applauding, talking? Are their other sounds like those of birds?

Most importantly, how do you feel? How does it feel emotionally? Pretty good?
Of course you do because you accomplished something and that feels good. It does not have to be an accomplishment; it can simply be that today I feel good.

I have some sunglasses on, my hair is fixed up just so and I am wearing certain clothes as I sit in a nice car. I feel good. It can be anything but you are there now, in your memory. At that time when you felt really good, you felt confident. Notice the calmness that comes with that. Once we accomplish something and feel good, we can relax and think that we are worthy and we are a good person. Just kind of soak that in now and feel how good that is.

I now want you to turn everything upside down a bit – The sounds, the smells and everything. Feel it more intensely and feel the clothes on your body. You notice how we are using the three major representational systems, auditory, visual and kinesthetic. Something to see, hear and feel inside and out.
Also, pay attention to the odors and any other senses that you want. Make everything intense now and especially that sense of feeling good. It feels good to be you right in this moment in your memory. Feel the moment more intensely.

Good. What I want you to do is make the OK sign with your right hand. That means touching the tip of your right index finger to the tip of your right thumb, as if you were saying ‘okay’ to someone.
I want you to also say the word ‘power’ and to do that now. Good. I want you to slowly open your eyes. What we’ve done is installed an anchor for confidence. The next time you feel the lack of power or confidence in any situation, all you have to do is make the okay sound with your right hand and say the word power. That feeling of confidence will come back to you.

This technique is a Neuro Linguistic Programming technique. Watch a cool Video of NLP in action here.

In the time of the wireless communication and technology developing at an exceedingly unprecedented pace, is Neuro Linguistic Programming still a relevant discipline? It is still worthwhile to pursue?

In the time of the wireless communication and technology developing at an exceedingly unprecedented pace, is Neuro Linguistic Programming still a relevant discipline? It is still worthwhile to pursue?

The answer, fortunately, is still yes. NLP is extremely important to human life because no matter how fast technology develops, the tendencies and capacities of humans are still the same.

Our technology might have changed, but that has not changed the way we perceive reality, the world and those around us. It has not changed how we make strategies to attain our goals.

In fact, NLP is even more relevant now because we need to creatively use all our resources and technologies to continually attain our goals. The technology itself would be useless if human creativity is not included in its application.

Now, here are more specific goals that can be attained with the use of Neuro Lingustic Programming:

1. Speed up your ability to learn new things, regardless of what the new body of knowledge is all about. Your newfound learning ability will also help you deal with change, in whatever form it may come. The change may be in your family or home, in your work or elsewhere. The good news here is that you would be able to adapt more quickly to change because you can learn more quickly, too.

2. Living in this world means you have to be ready for change. And a person’s readiness for change can be measured by the strategies that he uses to deal with change and adapt to different circumstances. With NLP, you will learn how to create new strategies to adapt to a fast-changing world.

3. Many people have many old habits that slow down or choke off completely their ability to grow. The goal of NLP is to identify these old habits and thought patterns and relinquish the person from these bindings, so that he may continue to grow as a person at a faster pace.

4. Receiving feedback from people is often a big problem for many individuals. Many don’t like criticism, because criticism is often perceived as completely negative and even injuring to one’s emotions. But did you know that there is a way to transform these so called negative criticisms so you can achieve more success?

5. Social relationships should have quality and should also be beneficial to you and other people. NLP will teach you how to forge these positive, beneficial relationships.

Though NLP is a wide body of knowledge, it is still possible to define the most essential components of this body of theory & practice. The following definitions can help you grasp what NLP is all about:

Though NLP is a wide body of knowledge, it is still possible to define the most essential components of this body of theory & practice. The following definitions can help you grasp what NLP is all about:

I. Neuro

NLP has an intense focus on the way people think and how people’s though fall into discernible and understandable patterns. Apart from addressing the way one thinks at the moment, NLP is also keen on finding out if a person or a group of people follow specific trends that have been identified throughout the years of existence of this discipline.

Once the patterns have been identified, the next phase is to find out how these patterns are affecting our personal and professional lives.

Often, people encounter stumbling blocks at work because they are unable to provide a specific type of thought pattern that would work in such an environment. NLP teaches people how to think and change what must be changed so you can achieve success.

II. Linguistic

The linguistic component of NLP is just as important as its thought component. While it is true that success is largely influenced by what we think and how we think, there is also a need to understand how human language actually works.

Now, there should be no confusion – the structure of human language is made up of more than words, phrases and expressions. The power of language runs more deeply than that – and NLP can help you unlock the language of business, better personal relationships, etc. Literally, one’s skill in social communication is a good measure of his potential for success later in life.

III. Programming

Believe it or not, the human brain uses programs to ensure that your life runs smoothly, with the least amount of issues or problems. The efficiency at which these programs are carried out is largely dependent on the person.

Some people are more skilled in programming their social interactions, thought patterns and goals. Some just need to reconfigure some ‘life programming’ they have already carried out. To create a positive change on one’s life, you need to understand how your life’s strategies are laid out – and this is where NLP can aid you. Once you are able to identify your life’s strategies, you now have a choice to do more of the same or not. It’s as simple as that.

NLP or Neuro Linguistic Programming is actually a whole body of knowledge or discipline that aims to discover, continuously, the how and why of human behavior patterns, social communication and thinking.
From one popular perspective, NLP is an effective way of encoding specific traits and characteristics in a person so that person would become more successful in what he does – whether it’s in his career, in his daily social interactions, etc.

The big question now would be why would anyone need to learn NLP in the first place? The answer lies in the nature of human reality itself and the world that he treads. There is nothing static or fixed about human reality, or existence. Everything is always in a state of constant flux.

There are really more questions than answers; though some people might think otherwise. Every aspect of human existence and development is always in a state of change – that is the essential trait of life. Even the smallest cell in the human body is constantly repairing, reproducing and encoding different types of behavior through the course of its natural life.

This is the reason why we need NLP. Neuro linguistic programming is one way of overcoming the essential chaos of human life and exert some firm control over it (at least, in our own lives).

In a world where we are constantly measured against different standards or pitted against other people in terms of intelligence, skills, competence and social skills, we need a way to stand on a solid ground of certainly despite these various challenges that we normally have to face when we set our goals in life.
In many ways, NLP can help a person live a better life by helping shift attitudes and behavior in such a way that he becomes more dynamic, independent or even more creative.

It really depends on the specific needs of a person; NLP is a tool that was meant to be used to address these specific needs. The goal of course, is a positive impact on the person’s life.
What can NLP teach us? Here are some short samples of what this program can achieve for you:

1. It can teach you to become more independent.
2. It can show you that it’s okay to reach out to people during times of need.
3. It can teach you how to move in a fast-paced and dynamic working environment.
4. It can also teach you how to slow down and appreciate the small things that make up the whole of your life.

There are signs and signals that surround all of us everyday. Some of those signals come from people and others come from objects. There are signals that are concrete. These signals tell us when it is okay to cross the street, when to eat and when we should be sleepy.

There are also signals all around us that are not as obvious; an innocent flirtation, needs and feelings within others they need met and the signals of trance. It is true there are people around you everyday falling in and out of trances. Many times people do not realize the signals that are coming from those in trance.

At the beginning of hypnosis
it is vital that you learn to recognize these signals. But before you can easily spot signals coming from others you must first teach yourself a few things.

You need to learn to see the world as it is. Plain and simple. Most people view the world as they want it to be. If you can learn to view things as they actually are you will be opening your mind to the truth of the world. When we see things the way in which we believe, or want to believe, things are we are deceiving ourselves.

As humans we are accustomed to seeing what we expect. We filter out what we don’t want and view the world, our lives and the lives of others in skewed terms. In order to see things as they truly are there are two things you must do for yourself.

The first is to recognize what is actually out there, whether you are viewing the world or your front yard. Keep your view simple and true, factual.

The second thing you need to do is to learn to recognize the signals that come when you are successful in a thing. Look for the signals that tell you are being successful in whatever it is that you are doing.

After you have learned to open your mind and do these two things successfully on a consistent basis you will be able to attune your ‘accurate signal recognition’ even further.

Milton Erickson was practiced and precise in his accurate signal recognition. Erickson was a leading psychiatrist, born in the early 1900’s. He specialized in medical hypnosis and family therapy. Erickson believed as many hypnotists do today that the unconscious was completely separate from the conscious. This included that the unconscious mind possessed its own awareness, interests, responses and learning abilities.

Milton Erickson was so precise in his recognition of signals that he could tell things about a person that they perhaps had only discovered moments earlier. He used his keen sense of signal recognition as he closely watched people and noticed things others would never see.

Erickson could tell a woman was expecting a child in the first weeks of pregnancy just by the tilt of her hips and movement of her hairline. When a woman is pregnant these things change in very small ways. The hair line moves by fractions, so little unless you were keen to the idea you would never notice. There are also changes within the body that affect the pelvis and its structure.

Erickson’s ability to read signals was so attuned he could read signals from subjects that other doctors never even realized. Once a woman visited him and was very skeptical about seeing yet another psychiatrist because no other psychiatrist had recognized her dilemma as of yet. Erickson told her immediately that he needed to know how long she had been a woman for.

He could tell simply from the signals she was sending out that she was really a man. Her body language was that of a girls who had not yet figured out how to work around new breasts. She would bump them as she moved her arms and gestured with her hands. Many people would just attribute this small signal as something that happens when one is not comfortable in their body. Or many may not have even noticed it at all, depending on the size of her chest I am sure.

Milton Erickson was noted for his signal recognition and it was fundamental in his success as a hypnotist. He knew, as you need to know now, that the smallest signals a person gives off can send a large amount of information your way.

Noticing changes in your subjects and the people around you is an important skill to perfect. Acute visual recognition can show you changes in the smallest detail. These changes and details are very important.

As you learn more about hypnosis
and signal recognition systems it is important to focus on and develop them for yourself. This will aid you greatly in seeing the signals that someone is entering trance. It will also help in showing you when people are responding to your ideas and suggestions in the ways you want them to.

Signal recognition systems are a key tool in hypnosis. They can tell you volumes about a person once you learn to recognize and read the signals properly.

After all it is always good to know when a woman is actually a man, and if signal recognition can help you here it can more than likely help you any where.

Building rapport as a hypnotist is very important. As you improve your rapport skills you will be improving your overall skill as a hypnotist. In saying that it is important to be aware of the common mistakes made in building rapport.

The ability to have great rapport with your subjects is one of the first tools you will encounter needing as a hypnotist. Common mistakes made in this area are hard to identify as ‘mistakes’ unless you are aware of what they are.

The first most common mistake made is simply trying to be too nice. Of course you should be nice to people. But there is a point in time in certain relationships when the line must be drawn.

In order to develop a deep rapport with people you need to have full communication. This means that everything that needs to be said must be said, even if it is unpleasant. Not having full communication can disable you from sharing important thoughts, ideas and feelings.

The basic rule to follow here is to be nice but not at the expense of real communication. Say what needs to be said. If you do not the rapport will break down and a barrier will start to go up.

Most people have experienced one end or the other of trying to be too nice. One example is we are often too busy with politeness to show our true selves.

The other end of the spectrum is we encounter people who are trying too hard to be nice to us. Either way you look at it, a wall is constructed and these people remain casual acquaintances. We often have the same exact conversations with these people and never truly build a lasting rapport with them because there is no real communication happening.

The second mistake that is often made when attempting to build rapport is trying too hard. Yes this is closely related to the first mistake. When we try too hard we send signals of desperation. It shows that we are too eager to please or desperate for company.

No one likes to be surrounded with desperate people. The air of desperation often causes those around it to feel obligated or under a lot of pressure. Both of these feelings can completely shut down communication.

Trying too hard is a mistake that can lead to the “Law of Reversed Effect”. The “Law of Reversed Effect” means the harder you try, the more likely you will fail. This is because you are actually interfering with the unconscious process.

When you try too hard you are not falling into a gentle rhythm where rapport is produced you are trying to force a relationship that is not ready yet. Maintaining a sense of what needs to happen to create rapport is essential to your success.

Once you recognize what needs to happen you should let your unconscious take over and implement the steps itself. ‘Instant rapport technique’ will help with this later in another article.

The third mistake that is common in hypnosis is to want something from someone too much. This mistake is again closely related to the first two mistakes.

When we want something too much we often become pushy and overwhelming, especially so to the subconscious. Once an individual has pushed too much their counterpart will back off or become disinterested. Salesmen encounter this often.

There is a solution for this. ‘Fractionating rapport’ will help you to pace yourself in the amount of intimacy you seek. In fractionation you work on building a little rapport and then leave it alone for a while. Let the subject come and re-engage you. Each time you repeat the process you will be digging deeper and deeper into a comfort zone and building a strong rapport with the person.

This technique keep people in their comfort zones, and you are only stretching that zone a little each time you go through the motions. Soon conversation, give and take, push and pull will become a natural and familiar habit.

Being too nice to people, trying too hard and wanting something too much, all have simple solutions to help you become successful.

If you are being too nice to your subjects, stop and remember there is a point at which you must stop being nice to save the rapport.

If you are trying too hard with your subjects implement the ‘instant rapport technique’. This will allow the unconscious to send the normal rapport signals to you through your subject.

And if you want something too much, stop doing it and use fractionation. Soon over a small amount of time you will have built many steps to great rapport.

Being aware of these three common mistakes in building rapport will help you to not only avoid them but to improve you hypnosis skills further.
